Restart Dad

News alert, my dad wasn’t sinlessly perfect, but that wasn’t the basis for his success as a father.  You don’t have to be perfect to be a good dad.  Good thing, because you won’t be, dads.  Not a news alert.  Your moral authority to lead will come from the direction you take.  You’ll break rules, even your own rules, but that doesn’t mean you can’t enforce them.  Whatever you enforce must be what’s right.  It’s right whether dad does it or not.  Being a good dad will mean repeated restarts.  God’s mercies are new every day.  You fall, you get up again. You show that when you do wrong, you can admit wrong, and then start over.  What do you believe?  Who do you love?  Are you consistent?  The truth is the truth, even if you fail at showing it sometimes.  But you will have to start over and it’s worth it to keep going, because it is the truth after all.  And you do want your children to obey the truth—that’s what life is about.  You can even have a major restart. Maybe you’re not saved.  Admit it and turn to God.  It will be worth it.  Maybe you’re saved, but you need a major admission of error and then move on.  God will support you.  You have a position that God gave you.  Your authority comes from Him, so use it.  Be a leader.  You might fail, but you don’t have to be a failure, because of the grace of God.  His grace is waiting for you—take advantage of it, dad.
